Candidate Announcement
My name is Robert Washo and I am announcing my Independent candidacy to represent the residents of the 8th district on the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators. The 8th District includes rural portions of Canton and Potsdam and all of Madrid.
After serving on the Canton Town Board the prospect of serving the residents of St. Lawrence County was something that always had my attention. Timing is everything, and that time is now.
I was raised to never judge a book by its cover. This lesson has proved valuable as I’ve earned respect from both sides of the aisle. Folks learn that I am a straight shooter who listens and adheres to the integrity of the process.
My life as a farmer, educator, and public servant is a testament to my dedication to contributing to our community. Following the path of selfless service has not always been easy, yet the successes and rewards are undeniable. I have made mistakes along the way and their lessons continue to inform my decision making process.
If elected, I will bring the same curiosity, open mindedness and compassion to the Legislature that I have applied every step of the way. On the Canton Town Board, I did my homework and researched the issues from all angles. I’m ready to contribute that proactive nature to help find solutions that most positively impact the people and places of our vast and special County.
We have entered a critical time for the North Country and the Nation as a whole. I will bring practical experience, institutional knowledge, and common sense to help guide us through these uncertain times.
If you are a registered voter within 8th District, please consider signing my Independent petition for ballot access for the November 2026 election. Independent petitions will be circulated in mid April 2026.
Thank you for your consideration.
